Today we have yet
another reason to "love" Texas government. *sigh*
On a happier note, gMerge is neat.

Yay weather! :) Austin had thunderstorms tonight and I happened to be awake for
some very neat, rapid, mostly cloud-to-cloud lightning. By the time I found a covered spot with
a decent view, other clouds had blocked my view of most of the bolts, so no pictures. But
there were five or so minutes of fun just watching. Anyway, sleep time for me.

For those of you in the Austin area, Stereo Total plays at The Parish this coming Thursday, June
2nd at 09:30pm CDT. Tickets are available from Front Gate
Tickets or at the door.
Next, Sinfest has been OMG-OWWW!-cute
for the past week or so.
Now the politics update. The Texas Lege's conference committee for the bill
to overhaul child protective services removed the amendment that would have
banned LGBT foster parents. However, HJR6, the anti-gay marriage bill has
passed both houses and now goes to a statewide vote this November. *sigh*
And finally, this week's Page
Two, which elaborates on content from the previous installment.

Guh... My two most recent boy interests/crushes have either been happily engaged or
about 1000 miles away. My interest in the more recent one remains, but the situation,
in general, is somewhat frustrating.

Go
Voyager 1. :) And yes, I've been partial to the Voyager missions
for a while now. They are about as old as I am.

Hmm... I got home today to a phone message for someone other than me (i.e. they dialed the
wrong number). That is not big deal. The part that amused/annoyed me is the person said her
name and that she needed a return call, but did not say for whom she was calling or why she was
calling. So, uhm, no. You do not need a return call if you are unknown to me and do not give
me a reason that I should speak to you. :)
Next I have some reading for you. First is an update on TX HJR6 and
second is the latest Page Two
from the Austin Chronicle.
And on a happy note, the camera arrived today. So now I have a macro lens and other toys to play
with. ;)

Well, it is ordered.
After having my D70 stolen, and then hearing of the impending D70s, and waiting for the release of
the D70s, and waiting for it to be in stock; I received an in-stock note via email late yesterday
and went to click "buy." :-) Presuming it ships today, I should have it, at the latest,
on Tuesday. Now all I need to do is find a replacement tripod I like. Speaking of Tuesday, I
should also have two rolls of new pictures from the SRT-102 back and online around then.
In other, not too interesting news, I've finally had time to get back to doing some needed, but not
urgent, security updates at work. It is nice to have something more interesting to do (security
updating RedHat 7.3 installs) than the usual Windows support. *cough* Stupid MS Access.

In light of recent events,
I've considered going around actively reminding people that the State of Texas has declared me unfit
to be near children. Oh, and if you're married, be careful, I'm devastating to
the survival of your wedded bliss. Yeah, just a <sarcasm
type="biting">bit</sarcasm> antagonistic, but in
an odd way, it sounds like fun. I know being antagonistic is not the best
method, but, to put it mildly, after a lifetime of effectively personal
attacks, I'm more than a little peeved.
In other news, I've been brainstorming on how I want to implement my favorite
photos gallery. As soon as I have enough free time to actually work on it,
something should appear.

It has again been a while since I had much to say here. Unfortunately I don't
have good news to share (though 'tis not horrible either). In summary, while
I was downtown here in Austin to see a movie with some friends, my car was
vandalized and my cameras (Nikon D70 and Minolta SRT-101) as well as my laptop
(an older Dell) and a friend's laptop (a recent Thinkpad) were stolen.
I immediately filed a police report and later updated it with the serial
numbers that we knew. I've gotten the car repaired (and had some other
work it needed done at the same time). No one lost wallets and the car was
otherwise left alone. So, it could have been worse. One of the earliest
thoughts I had was that all the stuff is replaceable, but suddenly I had a
bunch of stuff to do (i.e. hassle to go through). I find that thought
interesting in that I value my time and stress level over money and stuff.
So far, I have replaced the Minolta with a very similar SRT-102 (still a
fully manual film SLR) and have re-bought the various tools I lost. I have
resurrected my even older Pentium II based Thinkpad. Now I'm just waiting to
either get the new Nikon D70s
or a D70 on sale. In the meantime I'll be going about things as usual and
having fun with film. :-) Speaking of film, the scans from the test
roll of film from the SRT-102 are online.

Woot! (Yes, I did just type that in my journal.) The new photo gallery navigation and features are now online.
:-) One project off the list.
Now for some humor. This quote, which reminded me of a similar discussion
I had with a friend a year or two ago, was pasted into an IRC channel I'm in by a friend a week or two
ago:
04:34PM <volkadav> "I love those metal-plastic IBM keyboards.
You can kill people with them. It hurts to punch them. And, while some
keyboards go *clicky* while you're typing, they go CLICKY, MOTHERFUCKER. I
imagine Samuel L. Jackson would have one of these."
04:35PM <volkadav> amen. (quoth slashdot)

On a not-so-fun note... I was thinking late last week about something another
friend has mentioned a couple of times over the last year. His theory is that
privacy and human rights and similar things are going to get a lot worse in
the United States before they get better, so we might as well accept that fact
and help them get worse so that the getting better is accelerated. I'm not
sure I agree, but I've felt more lately like I do than before...
